Addiction Recovery

Sex addiction is generally characterized by a pattern of increasing, repeated sexual behavior, which is often uncontrollable despite that person's intentions and efforts to stop the behavior. As with any addiction, problematic thoughts and behaviors may be rationalized and the addiction denied, even when the condition develops to such an extent that it causes the loss of intimate relationships, family, friends, or one's career.

Not every health care professional knows how to properly diagnose sexual addiction. This is often due to the fact that many professionals generally use the term to denote all kinds of sex activities. For this reason, we believe the diagnosis should be handled only by a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT). CSAT therapists are highly skilled and trained and are considered throughout the world as experts in the filed of sex addiction.

We believe the dynamics and challenges of behavioral, or process, addictions are complex; so much so that mental health professional must take an entirely different approach to even begin the process of understanding addiction and recovery. Thus the CSAT® (Certified Sex Addiction Therapist) program was developed after years of extensive experience and research in the field of addiction therapy and is quickly becoming an industry standard for sex addiction recovery.

Dr. Carnes created a series of tasks to facilitate movement from a life of addiction to sobriety. As such, we utilize the Recovery Start Kit and task workbooks to assist the client through the course of recovery. We utilize experiential exercises which are uniquely tailored to the individuals recovery. We believe this recovery program can provide a recovery framework that will last a lifetime. -Adapted from Dr. Patrick Carnes recovery program

Recovering from addiction is about healing the brain – not only the brain’s infrastructure (cells, neurotransmitters, receptors, mylination…), but the embedded neuro pathways (brain maps) that formed around sexually acting out behaviors activated addiction-related neural networks (neurons that fire together, wire together) principle.
